3 Easy SEO Opportunities You Probably Missed

Updated: Jul 1, 2021

When it comes to search engine optimization (SEO), a lot of individuals unfamiliar with the topic will question whether or not it's worth the time and money. Two words for those people: DON'T IGNORE IT.

Easy SEO Opportunities for Small Business

To put it in layman's terms, SEO is the process of improving your website to increase its visibility on search engines for relevant searches. Better SEO leads to higher search rankings which leads to more traffic to your website. It's one of those behind-the-scenes marketing tactics where you won't see results overnight, but if you monitor your website analytics, you'll see improvement over time.

Here are 3 of the most frequently missed opportunities of SEO:

  1. Image Alt-Text: When inserting a photo on to your website, when you see a text box that says "Describe This Image" or "Image Alt-Text" or something along those lines, don't ignore it. Use 1-3 words to accurately describe that image. This tactic helps search engines recognize the content of that image, but also improves accessibility for users with visual impairments.

  2. Meta Descriptions: A meta description is a snippet of text (usually 160 characters or less) that describes the webpage. This snippet is what people will see on the search engine results page. If you're missing the meta description or if it's automatically generated, that user is likely to keep on scrolling past your search engine listing.

  3. Creating New Content: Remember the Ronco rotisserie cooker informercial: "Set it, and forget it!"? SEO is not "set it and forget it". Producing regular, relevant, and new content will give you a consistent SEO boost. Easiest way to do that? Create a blog and publish educational articles as often as you would like (preferably >2x per month).

SEO is intricate yet greatly beneficial. Don't ignore it.

Take a look at your website today. Where do your opportunities for SEO improvement lie?
